Biplab Deb takes oath as Rajya Sabha member from Tripura

Agartala, Sept 28: Tripura former Chief Minister and senior BJP leader Biplab Kumar Deb took oath as the member of Rajya Sabha on Wednesday.
Vice-President and Rajya Sabha chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar administered him the oath of Office and Secrecy.
Later, Deb said, he will always raise the voice of the people of Tripura in upper house.
“With everyone’s support and collective efforts, I will work sincerely for the welfare and development of Tripura”, he added.
Deb was elected in the lone Rajya Sabha seat on September 22 last with 43 votes, against Left Front candidate Bhanulal Saha, who secured 15 votes.
The by-poll was necessitated following res
ignation of Dr. Manik Saha, who is now the Chief Minister of Tripura.
Meanwhile, Gulam Ali, who has been nominated from Jammu and Kashmir as the member of Rajya Sabha was also sworn in on Wednesday.
V. Muraleedharan, Minister of State in the Ministry of External Affairs and Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs, Dr. Jitendra Singh, Minister of State in the Ministry of Science and Technology and Ministry of Earth Sciences, Harivansh, deputy chairman of Rajya Sabha; P.C Mody, secretary general of Rajya Sabha and other senior officers of the Rajya Sabha Secretariat were present in the oath taking ceremony.
