Agartala, May 23 (FD) Former Tripura Chief Minister and BJP MP Biplab Kumar Deb has lashed out at the Communist Party of India (Marxist) [CPI(M)] for condemning the killing of 27 Maoists, including their general secretary Nambala Keshav Rao, in a major encounter with security forces in Chhattisgarh.
In a video message released on Friday, Deb criticised the CPI(M) Politburo’s stance, stating it reveals the party’s “true anti-national character.” He accused the Marxists of siding with elements that threaten India’s unity and security. “This only proves they are against the country, against our territory, and anti-social,” Deb said. He also recalled the CPI(M)’s support for China and Pakistan during Operation Sindoor, further questioning their loyalty to national interests.
Deb condemned the hypocrisy of criticising the deaths of Maoists, who he said were responsible for the killings of thousands, including political figures and security personnel. “When our forces are eliminating such threats, the CPI(M) stands in opposition. I unequivocally hate them,” he declared.
The deadly encounter took place in the dense Abhujmad forests along the Bijapur-Narayanpur border, marking one of the largest anti-Maoist operations in recent years. Nambala Keshav Rao, also known as Basavaraju, was the top commander of the outlawed CPI(Maoist). Two jawans of the District Reserve Guard also lost their lives in the line of duty.
Deb’s remarks underscore a deepening political rift over internal security issues and the handling of Maoist insurgency in India. FD SB JK
