Agartala, May 5 (FD) Former Tripura Chief Minister and BJP MP Biplab Kumar Deb on Tuesday launched a blistering attack on the All India Trinamool Congress (AITC), declaring the party a “gone case” and saying it is “finished” in the wake of the BJP’s success in the recent West Bengal Assembly elections.
Deb, who served as co-in-charge for the BJP’s West Bengal campaign, made the remarks after arriving in Agartala to offer prayers at the Tripura Sundari (Mata Tripureshwari) temple. More than 200 party workers, including Tripura minister Sushanta Chowdhury (Food and Civil Supply, Transport and Tourism), gathered at the airport to receive him. Deb was garlanded on arrival as BJP supporters on motorcycles chanted slogans and waved party flags.
Speaking to reporters before leaving the airport, Deb credited the BJP’s victory in West Bengal to the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah, and said the win had averted potential violence against party workers and supporters. Responding to questions about personal advancement after the polls, he described himself as a “faithful soldier” of the party who would continue to carry out any responsibilities entrusted to him.
On reports of a derogatory remark by Trinamool leader Abhishek Banerjee about Amit Shah, Deb dismissed the comment and said West Bengal voters had taught those responsible a lesson. He reaffirmed his commitment to the party leadership, saying, “They have given me everything. Whatever responsibility they assign to me, I will fulfil it. I pray to God for their well being.”
Asked about the BJP’s chief ministerial candidate in West Bengal, Deb said the party leadership would take an appropriate decision in due course, noting that the electoral process had only recently concluded. FD JK
