Agartala, Jan 27 (FD) Two Indian farmers have been injured by the Bangladeshis on the other side of the barbed wire fencing at Hiracharra in Unakoti district, police said on Monday.
Sources in BSF and Police said, the incident occurred on Sunday noon when two Indians, who are brothers went to work on their crop land, a group of Bangladeshis entered in the Indian side by crossing the international border and threatened them not to work on their lands as it would be used by the Bangladeshis.
Police said, after a heated altercation there was a clash between the Indians and the Bangladeshis, in which two brothers – Karim Ali (28) and Jamir Ali (34) were hit by choppers and other weapons by the Bangladeshis and they also retaliated.
On hearing the alarm raised by the Indian farmers BSF and villagers rushed to the spot and the Bangladeshis left the area.
The Indian farmers were admitted to the Kailashahar hospital and the doctors said that they are out of danger but one finger of the one injured is likely to be amputed.
The barbed wire fencing was erected 100 yards away from the international border to adhere to the Indira-Mujib treaty signed in 1972.
The Indian villagers go to the other side of the border fencing by showing their Aadhar cards to BSF in the morning and return in the evening.
The incident occurred within three weeks after Bangladeshi nationals attacked BSF on January 7 last and tried to snatch their fire arms. FD JK
