By News On Air Oct 20, 2024
In Bangladesh, amid rising egg prices, another shipment of two lakh, 31 thousand eggs reached the country from India through the Benapole land port yesterday. Egg prices have soared to 200 taka per dozen in Dhaka and other parts of the country, forcing low- and middle-income households to reduce their consumption.
As per media reports, the Bangladesh government has approved the phased import of 4.5 crore eggs to stabilise prices. By November, an additional 90 lakh eggs will be imported from India.
Additionally, the National Board of Revenue recently reduced the import duty on eggs from 25 to 5 percent, lowering the cost of imported eggs by 13.8 taka per dozen. This move aims to make eggs, the country’s most affordable source of protein, more accessible to the public.
