In Bangladesh, the interim government led by Prof Muhammad Yunus announced the cancellation of eight national holidays introduced by Sheikh Hasina, including the Birth and Death anniversary of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman on March 17 and August 15 respectively. This was announced in a post on the verified Facebook page of the chief adviser to the interim government today.
Meanwhile, Sheikh Hasina’s party, Awami League has accused the interim government of attempting to erase the history of Bangladesh’s creation by “pressing the reset button.” In a statement posted on its verified Facebook page, the party claimed that the government had cancelled eight national holidays, including March 7, which commemorates Bangabandhu’s historic speech that united the Bengali nation during the Liberation War.
In another development, the ‘student coordinator’ and adviser to the interim government Nahid Islam said in a statement on Wednesday in Dhaka that the interim government does not recognise Sheikh Mujibur Rahman as the Father of the Nation.
