Bangladesh: All maritime ports asked to hoist Signal-3
By News On Air Oct 25, 2024
The Bangladesh Meteorological Department has asked all maritime ports across the country to hoist cautionary signal no. 3. This advisory was issued today as Severe Cyclonic Storm DANA crossed northern Odisha and is expected to move west-northwestward, potentially impacting coastal areas of Bangladesh.
“Under the influence of the cyclone, gusty/squally winds are likely to affect the north Bay, maritime ports, and adjoining coastal areas of Bangladesh,” a special weather bulletin from the meteorological office reported.
The ports of Chattogram, Cox’s Bazar, Mongla, and Payra have been instructed to keep Cautionary Signal No. 3 hoisted, it said. All fishing boats and trawlers over the North Bay and deep sea have also been advised to remain in shelter until Saturday morning.
Due to the cyclone’s influence, heavy rainfall has been recorded in the Khulna division, with the meteorological office reporting 76 millimeters of rain over the past 24 hours. As a precaution, the Bangladesh government has implemented necessary measures in coastal areas to manage the effects of the storm, reports Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha (BSS).
