Agartala, Sept 23 (FD) The Ayushman Bharat – Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB-PMJAY), launched on September 23, 2018, has successfully completed seven years of ensuring accessible healthcare for millions across India, particularly targeting economically weaker sections.
Since its inception, the scheme has provided free medical services to 4,71,247 beneficiaries in Tripura, including 7,811 patients treated in hospitals outside the state. Under AB-PMJAY, claims worth over ₹250.47 crore have been settled, and 16,17,346 Ayushman cards have been issued to beneficiaries in the state.
To extend health insurance benefits to the remaining population, the state government introduced the Chief Minister Jan Arogya Yojana (CMJAY) 2023 on February 15, 2024. So far, 5,49,170 beneficiaries from 2,52,030 families have been enrolled, receiving Ayushman cards under the scheme. More than 51,000 patients have availed free treatment, with 1,174 receiving care outside Tripura. Claims worth ₹26.10 crore have been settled under CMJAY 2023.
Marking the 7th anniversary of AB-PMJAY, awareness programs including school campaigns, street plays, and health rallies are being conducted across the state. Additionally, Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the “Swasth Nari, Samriddha Pariwar” campaign on September 17, 2025, focusing on women’s physical and mental well-being. In line with this, Ayushman cards are being distributed at women-centric health camps.
Both PMJAY and CMJAY 2023 provide families with free health insurance coverage of up to ₹5 lakh annually, with no restrictions on family size, age, or gender. Beneficiaries also do not need to renew their Ayushman cards. With the launch of CMJAY 2023, Tripura has effectively achieved Universal Health Coverage, significantly reducing the burden of out-of-pocket medical expenses for its people.
The announcement was officially shared through a press release by the Tripura Health Protection Society. FD SB
