Assam Police detains two women from Tripura in drug bust, seizes heroin and cash

Hailakandi, Jun 21 (FD) In a significant breakthrough, the Hailakandi Police in Assam detained two women from Tripura for their alleged involvement in drug trafficking.
Acting on a confidential tip-off, the police conducted a raid at the residence of Najmul Hossain, alias Raja, resulting in the seizure of 44 grammes of heroin and Rs 85,350 in cash. The arrested individuals include Najimul Hossain and the two women identified as Riti Tripura and Bari Choroi, both hailing from the Damcherra area in North Tripura district.

According to Samarjit Basumatari, Officer-in-Charge of Hailakandi Police Station, they received intelligence suggesting that the women from Tripura frequented Najmul Hossain's house to procure drugs for distribution in Tripura.
The police had been closely monitoring the activities and conducted the raid based on concrete information. Basumatari further revealed that several other women are suspected of being involved in the illicit drug trade, and the authorities are actively monitoring their movements.
The successful operation highlights the commitment of the police to combat drug trafficking and protect the region from the menace of narcotics.
