Assam: Flood Situation Deteriorated Due To Relentless Rain

In Assam, flood situation has deteriorated further due to relentless rain. More than 21 lakh people are reeling under the deluge across 29 districts. Governor Gulab Chand Kataria visited flood affected Morigaon district and interacted with the people. The Governor also took stock of the prevailing situation and directed district administration to make adequate arrangements to meet the requirements of the affected people. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma also visited Majuli, Dhemaji and Lakhimpur to take stock of the situation in these districts.
In Assam, 6 more person died due to flood during the last 24 hours, taking the toll to 52. More than 3200 villages of 107 revenue circles affected by flood and over 57000 hectares of crop areas have been damaged across the state. The river Brahmaputra, Barak and all their tributaries are flowing above danger level. The flood damaged 145 roads, 13 embankments and 2 bridges during the last 24 hours.
Meanwhile, Indian Meteorological Department has warned of extremely heavy rainfall in flood-ravaged Assam and neighbouring state Arunachal Pradesh. State Government has opened 247 Relief camps and 451 relief distribution centres. NDRF and SDRF teams have also been deployed for rescue and relief operations.
