Asia Mixed Team Badminton C’ships Begin; India to Face Macau in Opener

In badminton, the Asia Mixed Team Championships 2025 kicked off at Qingdao in China today. The tournament features 12 teams, divided into four groups of three. India has been drawn in Group D with two-time runner-up South Korea and Macau, China. It will begin its campaign tomorrow against Macau. Ace shuttlers Lakshya Sen and Malvika Bansod will lead the Indian challenge. Sen, along with HS Prannoy, will represent India in the men’s singles.
While India’s No. 2, Malvika Bansod, will represent the country in the women’s singles. In the men’s doubles, Asian Games champions Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty will take charge. In women’s doubles, young stars Treesa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand, alongside Olympians Ashwini Ponnappa and Tanisha Crasto, will represent India. In a Group D match today, South Korea defeated Macau, 5-nil. In Group B match, Indonesia beat Hong Kong, 5-nil.
