Agartala, July 29 (FD) Days after the mysterious deaths of three members of a family in South Tripura's Santir Bazar subdivision, another unexplained death has been reported from the Laugang area, deepening public anxiety and raising fresh questions over law and order in the region.
The latest victim has been identified as Tuton Saha (40), a widower who had been living alone in his ancestral house following the death of his wife a few years ago. According to local sources, Saha returned home from the market on Monday night, had dinner, and went to bed as usual.
However, when he failed to respond to repeated calls from family members on Tuesday morning, they alerted Santir Bazar Police Station. After breaking open the door to his room in the presence of police, family members found him lying dead on the floor. Police said he was found on the floor despite having a bed in the room. The circumstances surrounding his death remain unclear.
A police team from Santir Bazar visited the spot, conducted a preliminary investigation, and sent the body for post-mortem examination.
The Officer-in-Charge of Santir Bazar Police Station said the exact cause of death would be known only after the post-mortem report is received. Police have initiated an investigation into the incident.
The latest death has intensified concerns in the subdivision, which has witnessed a series of unexplained fatalities in recent days. Last week, three members of the same family were found dead under suspicious circumstances, while another young man was also found dead on the same day in a separate incident. Investigations into both cases are still underway, with police yet to ascertain the exact circumstances surrounding the deaths.
The recurring incidents have created an atmosphere of fear and panic among residents of Laugang and nearby areas. According to local sources, some villagers are planning to organise a traditional puja in the belief that it may ward off perceived evil forces responsible for the recent tragedies.
Police, however, have not linked the latest death to the earlier cases, and investigations are continuing to determine the cause and circumstances of Tuton Saha's death. FD JK
