Agartala, May 14 (FD) After a prolonged legal battle, the Municipal Corporation has successfully reclaimed approximately 0.75 gonda (around 475 shatak) of government land adjacent to the lake near Abhaynagar Market. The reclamation took place on Wednesday in the presence of key officials, including Mayor Deepak Majumder and Corporator Hiralal Debnath.
The lake, located near the bustling Abhaynagar Market, had been under renovation for the past six to seven months as part of the Amrit 2.0 project. The foundation stone for the renovation of three lakes in Agartala, including this one, was laid by Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha.
During the initial stages of the lake restoration, authorities discovered that Jyotish Debbarma, a local resident, had illegally occupied a significant portion of land on the lake’s western bank. Following a detailed legal process, the court ruled against Debbarma, rejecting his claim and ordering him to vacate the government property.
In accordance with the court’s directive, the Municipal Corporation cleared the encroachment today. A court representative was also present to ensure legal compliance during the process.
Mayor Deepak Majumder, while speaking to the media, emphasized the government’s commitment to protecting public land and executing developmental projects without obstruction. “This action marks a victory for urban planning and justice,” he stated. FD SB
