AMC presents interim budget amidst financial crisis faced by the state government

Agartala, April 24 (FD) The Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC) has suffered as a result of the state government's financial woes. Due to a paucity of grant-in-aid from the state government, AMC Mayor Dipak Majumder has provided an interim budget of only Rs 1.42 crore for the first three months of the current fiscal year (April–June). The emergency session to vote and accept this budget will take place on April 26, with the full-fledged budget for the whole fiscal year scheduled to be presented only when the state government's budget is submitted and accepted in the assembly in June.
The AMC cannot function without a grant-in-aid from the state government, underscoring the important role that the state budget plays in the AMC's operation. This has prompted anxiety among the corporators, who must work with a restricted budget to deliver basic services and amenities to the inhabitants of Agartala.
The problem has been compounded by the state government's continuous financial crisis, which has resulted in a cut in financing for numerous sectors, including municipal corporations such as AMC. Financial restrictions have made it difficult for the AMC to carry out its tasks properly and deliver important services to the public. FD SB JK
