Agartala, Dec 26 (FD) Tripura Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha on
Thursday supported the BJP’s stand on Baba Saheb Ambedkar and also criticized the grand old Congress party saying that they had not missed any opportunity to insult him during his lifetime and also after death. “We need to study the one and half hour speech of the union Home Minister Amit Shah on December 17 in the parliament through the web. Even Pandit Neheru had opposed the induction of Ambedkar in the constituent assembly. It was Gandhi ji, who brought him in the constituent assembly and he was given the job of drafting the constitution. Ambedkar himself had opposed inclusion of article 370, but it was Nehru, who left him with no other alternative”, Saha told reporters. Saha said, Ambedkar ji had also opposed Nehru’s unilateral introductions and passing of the Hindu code bill, while allowing other religions to keep their personal law on marriage, inheritance, divorce and sharing of properties, but was overruled. During his tenure as the Home Minister of the country, Nehru managed to keep him out of the parliamentary committees, but during his foreign tour Ambedkar was included in the parliamentary committee, but when Nehru returned he dropped Ambedkar again.
The Chief Minister said, when Ambedkar wanted to resign, he was not allowed to read out the letter in the parliament even as he resigned due to humiliation heaped on him by Nehru himself.
Saha said even Nehru had attended an election campaign against Ambedkar in Mumbai North Central seat and more than 78 thousand votes were cancelled to ensure his defeat.
“He even did not stop at that and resorted to all dirty tricks to defeat him in a bi-election. Later he came to Rajyasabha in 1954 and the subversive works also continued there and he died within two years.
Even the man who could defeat Ambedkar was given ‘Padma Bhushan’ by the then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi in 1970. Ambedkar was not conferred Bharat Ratna in his lifetime, but he got the award posthumously in 1990 under the government headed by V.P.Singh, Chief Minister said adding that all these facts are mentioned in his biography authored by Dhananjoy Keer.
