Agartala, Nov 14 (FD) Amara Bangali, a Bengali based regional party today vehemently opposed the demand of the Tipra Motha to reserve 26 seats in the sixty-member assembly in Tripura, which they termed as unconstitutional and impractical.
The party stated that reservation should be on the basis of population ratio and if the demand of the Tipra Motha is conceded then it would be injustice to the majority community in the state.
The party further informed that for implementation of TNV accord three general seats were deserved.
Addressing a press conference the party leaders also pointed that the OBC community comprising 40 percent of the total population did not get any kind of reservation, though in other states they comes under reserved category.
The Tipra Motha is set to hold a “mega gathering” at Vivekananda Ground here on Friday to press for its demand for ‘Greater Tipraland’, a senior party leader said.
Pradyot Kishore Manikya Debbarma, the regional party’s founder and chairman, will address the gathering, besides its president Bijoy Kumar Hrangkhawl.
Talking to reporters on Wednesday, Debbarma had said that the indigenous people of Tripura would want to remind “people in Delhi” about their long-standing demand.
“Tiprasa people will gather in large numbers at Vivekananda Ground to apprise Delhi people of their constitutional demands. There will be no procession or slogan-raising in Agartala, just a mass gathering,” he said.
“Delhi will have to pay attention and accept our voice,” Pradyot said. FD JK
