Agartala, Apr 24 (FD) Tensions continue in parts of the ADC areas following the recent elections, with fresh allegations of post-poll violence emerging from Bisramganj. Reports suggest that supporters of the Tipra Motha Party carried out acts of vandalism and intimidation during a victory rally in the Dewan Bazar area under Bisramganj police station.
According to local sources, a group participating in the rally allegedly targeted a roadside hotel owned by BJP supporter Jayanta Debbarma. The establishment was reportedly vandalised, with furniture and utensils damaged. It has also been alleged that the owner was questioned over his political affiliation and asked why he supported the BJP instead of the Tipra Motha Party.
Eyewitness accounts further claimed that despite the presence of police personnel accompanying the rally, no immediate intervention was made to prevent the incident. The hotel is said to be the sole source of livelihood for Debbarma.
In a related incident, alleged miscreants reportedly entered a nearby tribal residence and issued threats to the occupants, warning them against continuing their support for the BJP. They were allegedly told to dissociate themselves from the party or face consequences.
Authorities have not yet issued an official statement on the matter, and independent verification of the allegations is awaited. FD JK
