Alleged Associate of BJP Leader Detained with Yaba Tablets in Tripura; BSF Hands Over Suspect to Police

Agartala, Sept 22 (FD) A man identified as Chiranjit Shil, alias Gedu—reputed to be a close associate of Dhanpur Mandal president Bipul Majumdar—has been detained by the Border Security Force (BSF) alongside an accomplice for alleged possession of Yaba tablets.

The operation led to the interception of Gedu and his associate, identified as Yasin Miah.

Following their initial custody, the BSF handed over both suspects to the Jatrapura Police Station for formal legal proceedings.The detention has renewed public scrutiny over Gedu’s history of alleged narcotics involvement.

Sources stated that the BSF had previously recovered a pistol from his residence last year. Local reports alleged at the time that he was subsequently released due to intervention from influential political circles.

Sources further claim that fresh attempts are underway to secure his release following this latest operation. Gedu was also reportedly arrested and incarcerated in connection with a separate Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act case registered in 2023. FD JK
