Agartala, Aug 25 (FD): Brushing aside all speculations, the central leadership of the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) today appointed Rajib Bhattacharya as the President of the Tripura unit of the party with immediate effect.
A press statement issued by BJP National General Secretary Arun Singh said the national President of the party; Jagat Prakash Nadda has approved the appointment of Bhattacharya as the president of Tripura Pradesh of BJP.
Bhattacharya was the general secretary of the state unit and was elevated to the status of Vice President after the BJP came to power in the state in 2018. He was also the Chairman of Khadi and Village Industries Board, Tripura.
Appointment of the president of the party was necessitated after Manik Saha, who was serving as the president of the party unit became Chief Minister of the state a few months ago.
A member of Rastriya Swam Sevak Sangha (RSS), Bhattacharya was involved with politics for last thirty years and is also the close aide of the former Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb.
Party sources said, all the senior party leaders of the state including the former CM, Union Minister of state Pratima Bhoumik, Deputy CM Jishnu Dev Varma and CM Saha recommended him to be appointed for the top post of the party.
Sources said Bhattacharya’s appointment was finalized a day after Saha and Deputy Chief Minister Jishnu Dev Varma held a key meeting in Guwahati on Wednesday with Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and central BJP leaders to chalk out the strategy for the state elections scheduled in early next year.
In a face book post Dr Manik Saha said he strongly believed that appointment of Bhattacharya as the state party president will fortify the organization in Tripura. FD JK
