Agriculture minister inaugurates Satellite Biotechnology Lab at Tripura Agriculture College

Agartala, Aug 25 (FD): Tripura minister for Agriculture, Pranajit Sinha Roy on Wednesday inaugurated a Satellite Biotechnology Laboratory at Tripura Agriculture College here, which was set up in collaboration with the Department of Biotechnology- North East Centre for Agricultural Biotechnology (DBT-NECAB) of Assam Agriculture University.
The inaugural programe was held on the 16th Foundation Day of the college in presence director of agriculture department- Sharadindu Das, NECAB Director B.K. Sharma and Inspector General of CRPF, Rabvideep Singh Sahi and Principal of the College of Agriculture- Dr. Tapan Kumar Maity.
Sinha said, there are 4.72 lakh farmers and 2.55 lakh hectare agriculture land in Tripura; the state government is extending assistance all possible assistance from soil testing to marketing of the produce.
He said, the state government is committed to fulfill the dream of the Prime Minister Narendra Modi of making the country self reliant and doubling the farmers’ income adding that the government also decided to increase the Minimum Support Price (MSP) for paddy procurement to Rs. 20.40 per kg from the next year.
The Agriculture minister said, several consignments of lemon, pineapple and mare rice were already exported from the state and the state government would take initiative for exporting the state’s spine gourd to Delhi market.
“There is a possibility that the College of Agriculture will soon get approval from the Central Agricultural University,” Sinha said.
Principal of the college said, placement of the students passing out from the college is satisfactory and around 80 students of 12 batches from this college got employment in various organisations across the country.
He demanded for introducing PG course in various segments, setting up farmers’ hostel in college campus and development infrastructure of the boys and girls hostels. FD JK
