Agartala, Oct 3 (FD) Resident doctors and postgraduate trainees (PGTs) of Agartala Government Medical College (AGMC) and GB Pant Hospital have threatened to observe a pen-down strike from 9 am on October 5 if their demands concerning the circulation of videos and other online content related to a recent incident are not addressed.
The proposed protest was announced by the Resident Doctors’ Association (RDA) of AGMC and GB Pant Hospital following the circulation of what the association described as misleading and unauthorised material on social media. The doctors’ body said it was placing its version of events before the public to counter alleged misinformation and safeguard the dignity, privacy and professional integrity of healthcare workers.
According to the RDA, its first demand is the immediate arrest of those allegedly involved in recording and circulating the video without consent, followed by legal action under applicable laws. The association has also sought action against individuals, social media pages, media platforms and other entities that allegedly upload, circulate or republish material that it considers unverified, misleading or defamatory.
The association has further demanded the removal of videos, photographs, reels and other online content allegedly containing false or defamatory information. It has also called for measures to prevent the further circulation or re-uploading of such material.
The fourth demand seeks public clarification or an apology, wherever legally appropriate, from media houses, social media pages and other entities that published information the association considers unverified or defamatory. The RDA has also called for corrections wherever necessary.
The doctors’ association said the circulation of such content could affect the doctor-patient relationship and undermine public confidence in healthcare professionals. It urged members of the public to verify information before sharing online content or reaching conclusions about the incident.
Earlier, resident doctors of AGMC and GB Pant Hospital staged a sit-in outside the Principal’s office and submitted a memorandum seeking action over the circulation of videos. They also called for restrictions on unauthorised recording inside hospital premises and stronger security arrangements.
The RDA said resident doctors and PGTs remained united in protecting the dignity and professional integrity of healthcare workers while supporting responsible public discourse. It warned that failure to address the four demands would lead to the proposed pen-down strike from 9 am on October 5. FD JK
