Agartala to get International flight services to Chittagong from June: Sushanta

Agartala, May 3 (FD) International flight services in Agartala-Chittagong route will be launched on from the first week of June, state minister for transport Sushanta Chowdhury said today.
“Maharaja Bir Bikram Airport will be declared as an international airport next month and the international flight between Agartala and Chittagong will be started. This was mentioned in a letter written by the Union Ministry of Civil Aviation to Chief Minister Prof. (Dr.) Manik Saha”, Chowdhury told reporters.
Chief Minister during his visit to Delhi met Union Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia to raise various demands related to the transport communication of the state. The Chief Minister was informed through a letter about the initiatives taken by the Union Ministry of Civil Aviation in view of the Chief Minister's demand.
Chief Minister demanded to resume cargo services in the state. In view of that demand, Indigo Airlines has launched cargo services a few days ago. The Transport Minister expressed hope that other airlines are also expected to launch cargo services soon.
In the press conference, the Transport Minister said that the people of the state have been demanding to start night flight services from Maharaja Bir Bikram Airport for a long time. During his recent Visit to Delhi, the Chief Minister also made this demand to Union Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Seindia. The letter also mentioned that the Union Ministry of Civil Aviation has taken necessary steps in view of this demand of the Chief Minister. The Transport Minister informed that the Chief Minister had demanded the reopening of the Kailashahar Airport during his visit to Delhi. In view of that demand, it is mentioned in the letter that among the plans taken to develop 50 airports in the country under UDAN Scheme, Kailashahar airport is also included in the list. The Transport Minister informed that the Chief Minister had also demanded the Union Minister of Civil Aviation Jyotiraditya
Scindia for the construction of heliports at 6 places in the state. In view of this demand, the setting up of heliports at Matabari, Amarpur, Narikel Kunja, Konpui has been shortlisted. The Transport Minister informed that an initiative has been taken to install a bronze statue of Maharaja Bir Bikram Manikya at the newly constructed Maharaja Bir Bikram Airport. Tourism Department and Transport Department will spend 25 lakhs for this. Secretary of Transport Department Uttam Kumar Chakma was also present at the press conference. FD JK
