Agartala, Oct 01 (FD) Transport Minister Sushanta Chowdhury announced the introduction of the Agartala-Mumbai rail service, hailing it as a significant addition to Tripura's communication infrastructure. The Lokmanya-Kamakhya weekly express train is set to start operating before Durga Puja, connecting Agartala and Mumbai.
The express train will make stops at seven strategically chosen stations along the route, including Ambasa, Dharmanagar, Badarpur, New Haflong, Lumding, Hojai, and Chaparmukh, serving as key hubs for passengers.
Minister Chowdhury emphasized that this rail service will benefit a wide range of individuals, including job seekers, patients, students, tourists, and businessmen. He expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnab for their visionary leadership in realizing this initiative.
Chowdhury highlighted Prime Minister Modi's commitment to strengthening communication networks nationwide, citing the diamond model that has improved the state's communication system since its introduction in 2018. Currently, Tripura boasts a network of 11 express trains connecting various states, along with five operational local train services.
He revealed the Amrit Bharat Station Project, aimed at revitalizing 508 railway stations across different states, with a special focus on the North Eastern region. Notably, Dharmanagar, Kumarghat, and Udaipur railway stations within Tripura are set to benefit from this scheme.
In a promising development for cross-border connectivity, Minister Chowdhury confirmed that rail communication with Bangladesh is in the works, marking a significant stride towards regional integration.
The announcement concluded with the revelation of the upcoming inauguration of a modern escalator at Agartala railway station, further enhancing the passenger experience. The press conference showcased the collective commitment of key stakeholders to usher in a new era of connectivity for the state of Tripura. FD SB JK
