Agartala and Chittagong will commence international flight services in June

Agartala, May 31 (FD) The Maharaja Bir Bikram Airport in Agartala is set to launch international flight services between Agartala and Chittagong in Bangladesh in June, following the approval of immigration facilitation by the Union Home Ministry.
The Director of Maharaja Bir Bikram Airport, KC Meena, announced today that all necessary protocols are expected to be completed by the end of June, enabling the commencement of international flights. SpiceJet, a renowned low-cost carrier, has expressed its readiness to operate flights on this route.
To facilitate smooth immigration processes, an immigration centre will be established at the airport, subject to clearance from the Ministry of Home Affairs. SpiceJet has already informed the MBB airport authority of their intent to initiate flights between Agartala and Chittagong on June 26.
Currently, the Maharaja Bir Bikram Airport handles approximately 4,500 passengers daily, with four airlines operating 36 flights per day. Recognising the significance of international connectivity, the Government of Tripura has provided Rs. 15 crore as viability gap funding to support the launch of international flight services.
The introduction of international flights between Agartala and Chittagong is expected to enhance regional connectivity and strengthen bilateral relations between India and Bangladesh. It will offer increased travel opportunities and facilitate easier access for both business and leisure travellers. The move signifies a positive step towards fostering economic growth and promoting tourism in the region.
