After days of hot, humid weather, sudden downpour brings relief to people

Agartala, April 22 (FD) After the hot and humid weather reached 39.3 degrees Celsius in the past few days, sudden thundershowers and hailstorms damaged several houses, uprooted trees and caused extensive crop damage in parts of the state on Friday evening.
Severe thunderstorms and hailstorms have caused damages to several houses, trees, and crops in West Tripura, Khowai, and Sepahijala districts of Tripura on Friday.
Although the exact figures are yet to be calculated, reports suggest that agricultural damages have been reported from both Khowai and Sepahijala districts.
Fortunately, no casualties have been reported in the state so far. However, the prevailing weather conditions suggest that the temperature is likely to hover between 36 and 39 degree Celsius for the next few days, an officer of the local meteorological department said.
Earlier on March 21 last, a woman was killed during thunderstorms at Tripura's Khowai district.
In October last year, one person was injured while as many as 509 houses were damaged in Tripura due to cyclone Sitrang.
Meanwhile, the local meteorological department has warned of thunderstorm with lightning and gusty wind speed reaching about 40 to 50 kilometer per hour in isolated places of district of the state.
The Met office reports suggest that Tripura has received an average of 16 mm rainfall on Friday. FD PD JK
