Addl Police Super accused of torturing wife and extortion; removed from position

Agartala, Aug 22 (FD) In a shocking revelation, Suparna Das, the wife of Additional Superintendent of Tripura Police, Uttam Banik, has filed a case against her husband, accusing him of mental torture, physical abuse, and extortion. The incident came to light as Suparna lodged a complaint with the West Agartala Women Police Station on Monday.

According to Suparna, the harassment began shortly after their marriage in March 2012, when Banik and his mother allegedly initiated mental torture, coupled with monetary demands and even physical violence. Suparna Das further alleged that her ordeal continued over the years, and in 2021, her husband coerced her into providing funds for purchasing land and constructing a house.

In 2021, Suparna stated that Uttam again demanded money, this time for purchasing land and building a house. Suparna refused, leading to verbal abuse and physical violence. She further uncovered explicit photos and videos of her husband with other women on his phone, leading to threats and warnings against her.

In response to the serious allegations, the Director General of Tripura Police has taken action, removing Uttam Banik from his position in the Sepahijala district and reassigning him to Police Headquarters in Agartala. Suparna Das is seeking legal redress and decisive action against her husband for the alleged torment and extortion she has faced. FD SB JK
