Mumbai/IBNS: Adani Group-led Dharavi Redevelopment Project Private Limited (DRPPL) has hired urban planners and designers to redevelop Mumbais Dharavi locality, which is one of the worlds largest slums, media reports said.
DRPPL, which is the joint venture of Adani Group and Maharashtra Government, has hired architect Hafeez Contractor, US-based design firm Sasaki and consultancy firm from the UK, Buro Happold.
Some experts from Singapore have also joined the team.
A spokesperson of DRPPL said as quoted by Mint, The Dharavi Redevelopment Project is more than an urban renewal and revitalizing the infrastructure our goal is to elevate the quality of life of the residents of Dharavi while nurturing the essence of its vibrant culture.
With a commitment to integrity, inclusivity, and community engagement, we approach this pivotal endeavour with world-class excellence.
We anticipate the harmonious fusion of expertise from our world-class partners and the vibrancy and spirit of Dharavis citizens to cultivate a model of urban redevelopment that the world can look up to and can be replicated across other locations and cities, the spokesperson added.
In November 2022, Adani Properties had won the bid to redevelop Dharavi, which is spread across 2.39 square kilometers with an investment of Rs. 5,069 crore.
The partnership had triggered a political slugfest with the opposition parties raising concerns over the rehabilitation of the small-scale businesses currently functioning in Dharavi.
