Agartala, July 12 (FD) Tension ran high in the vicinity of the famous Tripureswari temple at Udaipur in Gomati district after a human skull was found floating in the water of holy Kalyan Sagar temple on Wednesday morning.
The floating skull caught the eye of a morning walker, who informed the head pries of the Shaktipeeth and finally police recovered the skull and sent for investigation.
Officer-in-charge of RK Pur police station Babul Das said the skull is yet to be identified.
“Initially, a pre-post mortem is conducted and after that the main autopsy is carried out. The identity of the deceased can only be ascertained once the scientific procedures are over,” said Das.
He said the Hindus and Muslims both regard the temple as holy place and suspected that the skull could be brought to the pond by animal.
However, a local journalist said that earlier many people had drowned into the pond, known as Kalyansagar and it could be one of them.
Head priest of the temple Chandan Chakraborty said, “We have decided to perform some rituals for purifying the water of the lake as lakhs of pilgrims from home and abroad come here. So far we understand that it has been brought from outside of the temple premises and left here.” FD JK
