A POSCO court sentences death penalty to two youths for gang-rape and murder of a six-year old

Agartala, Oct 4 (FD) Two youths were awarded capital punishment for murdering a six-year old girl after gang rape in North Tripura district.

The incident occurred on June 17, 2019 in Dharmanagar's Haflong Hills Tea Garden in North Tripura district.

The udge of the special POCSO Court in the North Tripura district, Angshuman Debbarma pronounced his judgment on Tuesday convicting Sourav Chandra Nath and Dibakar Das on charges of rape and murder under 376D, 302 of the Indian Penal Code and Section Six of the POCSO Act.

The judge recorded statements of 41 witnesses and evidence produced by the police.

The arrested accused confessed before the judge in the court how they kidnapped the minor, where they raped her and how they killed her.

After the girl was missing from a rented room, the villagers launched a massive search in the area and the dead body was recovered the next day.

Police on suspicion arrested the youths and on the basis of their statements the clothes of the dead minor were recovered and sent to the lab for forensic examination. The lab report revealed that the accused had raped the minor before killing her. FD JK
