A police officer, who earned DGP’s commendation disc, was arrested for embezzlement of funds

Agartala, Mar 6 (FD) A decorated police officer, who was earlier adorned with the DGP’s police medal was arrested by police on Tuesday night in connection with the embezzlement of money, police said today.
Police said they arrested Traffic Inspector Amarjit Debbarma, serving in the traffic department of the Bishalgarh subdivision in Sepahijala district for not depositing Rs. 74, 04,400 which were collected as fines.
Additional Superintendent of police Rajib Sutradhar said that the discrepancies were found during an internal investigation. The collected fines were supposed to be deposited in the treasury, but it was not for any reason.
It was found that money corresponding to eight invoices remained unaccounted and subsequently, the inspector was given time to address the issue, but the funds were not deposited.
A case was registered in the Bishalgarh police station and the accused was also presented before a local court, which admitted police remand.
Sutradhar stated that in course of preliminary investigation it was found that a female police officer might have been involved in the financial scam that rocked the police department. FD JK
