Agartala, Nov 15 (FD) A new belligerent tribal group has been formed in Tripura's North District, christened as the Tripura Hambagrata Army (THMBA), which is led by a self-styled commander, Toyang Reang, according to well-informed intelligence sources.
An armed group of about 12 militants is currently bivouacking at New Zopui Jhum Hut in the Sajek Hills of Bangladesh, bordering the Kanchanpur subdivision of North Tripura district.
They have been observed carrying two AK-type rifles and eight SBBL and bore .22 rifles, the report stated. According to reliable sources, their objective is to establish a Reang state centered in North Tripura, pursuing self-determination and full-fledged autonomy for the Reang community. As per claims, a total of 70 cadres are currently active, with more individuals joining their ranks.
The president of this organization is Hambai Reang, and the group has been active in various Bru refugee camps in Dhalai, North Tripura, and Damchera.
On November 10, the armed cadres of THMBA reportedly left the New Zopui Jhum Hut and moved toward Kachalong No. 01 (Kachalong Reserve Forest), as new cadres from Chamanu are expected to join them. These recruits are anticipated to be received through Gobindabari. FD JK
