Agartala, Sept 29 (FD) In a shocking incident highlighting the dire consequences of poverty, a 37-year-old mother poisoned her two young sons before taking her own life on a fateful Wednesday night in Kamala Bagan village, situated in the Khowai district of Tripura.
The tragic event occurred on Wednesday night when Manu Munda, a daily wage laborer, temporarily left his home to visit a neighbor’s house to watch television. During his absence, his wife, Pramila, served a meal laced with poison to their two sons, 10-year-old Parimal Munda and 12-year-old Manesh Munda, and consumed it herself.
When Manu returned home owing to a power outage, he saw his younger son, Parimal, in distress, foaming at the mouth, and in pain. The boy revealed that their mother had poisoned their meal. Manu quickly realized the gravity of the situation when he discovered his elder son, Manesh, and wife, Pramila, were also in critical condition.
Neighbors rushed to their aid and transported all three to the Behalabari Primary Health center. Despite valiant efforts by medical staff, Pramila and Parimal succumbed to the poison. Manesh was then referred to the Khowai District Hospital and, subsequently, to the GB Pant Hospital in Agartala, but sadly, he couldn't be saved and passed away.
The police are currently conducting an investigation to determine the motive behind this tragic incident, while Manu Munda, devastated by the loss of his family, has reported that his elder son, Manesh, revealed that their mother had mixed the deadly concoction in their water before consuming it herself. This shocking incident underscores the dire circumstances faced by impoverished families in the region. FD SB JK
