Agartala, May 16 (FD) Union Minister of State for Information & Broadcasting and Parliamentary Affairs, Dr. L. Murugan, announced that 97.55% of MGNREGA job card holders in South Tripura have received employment under the central scheme.
Speaking at a press briefing during his official visit to the district, Dr. Murugan said over 97,000 individuals hold job cards, and more than 2,000 are receiving guaranteed 100 days of wage employment annually as per MGNREGA provisions.
Dr. Murugan highlighted the successful implementation of various central government schemes in South Tripura. Under PM Kisan Samman Nidhi, over 21,000 beneficiaries are receiving ₹600 monthly via direct bank transfer. The Minister praised the emergence of over 28,000 'Lakhpati Didis'—women who have become financially self-reliant—and mentioned the involvement of 7,486 women in Self-Help Groups (SHGs).
On housing development, he informed that 31,000 houses have been identified under the second phase of PM Awas Yojana. Emphasizing inclusive growth, Dr. Murugan reiterated Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision that border villages should be prioritized for development, ensuring access to clean drinking water, roads, electricity, and essential services.
During his two-day visit, the Minister was welcomed by district officials and chaired a review meeting covering key central schemes such as PMMVY, AB-PMJAY, and PM-JANMAN. He expressed satisfaction with the district's progress, stating it exceeds the state average.
Dr. Murugan also visited the Akashwani Belonia station to interact with local listeners, the Tripureshwari Temple in Udaipur, and inspected the Muhurighat Land Customs Station and border check post. His engagements will continue with participation in the Tiranga Yatra in Belonia. FD SB
