78th Bankul Mahamuni Fair Inaugurated; Bankul to be Developed as a Major Tourist Hub: CM

Agartala, Mar 13 (FD) The five-day-long 78th Bankul Mahamuni Fair commenced yesterday at the Mahamuni Buddha Temple premises in Sabroom, with Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha inaugurating the event. He announced that initiatives would be taken to develop Bankul into one of the most attractive tourist destinations in the state.
On this occasion, the Chief Minister unveiled 28 Buddha statues at the temple and performed prayers. Addressing the gathering, he emphasized that Lord Buddha's teachings remain relevant today, guiding people toward peace and harmony. He also reiterated the state government's commitment to supporting the completion of the International Buddhist University in Sabroom, which aims to provide religious education along with cultural discussions, chanting, meditation, and sports facilities.
The Chief Minister further stated that efforts would be made to enhance the Bankul Mahamuni Buddhist Temple premises to attract foreign tourists. He urged the public to maintain peace and harmony during the fair and enjoy the festival.
The event was also attended by MLA Mylafru Mog, Chancellor of the International Buddhist University Dr. Dhammapia, Sabhadhipati of South Tripura Zilla Parishad Dipak Datta, and other dignitaries. An exhibition showcased stalls from 10 government departments, and cultural programs were organized by the Information and Cultural Affairs Department.
The inauguration ceremony was graced by MDC Kongjong Mog, Rupaichhari BAS Chairman Rakhi Tripura, social activist Dipayan Chowdhury, Buddhist monk Wainita Mahathero, South Tripura DM Smitha Mol, and SDM of Sabroom Shibojyoti Datta, who delivered the welcome address. PRESS RELEASE
