Agartala, March 26 (FD) Bangladesh Assistant High Commission here on Sunday celebrated independence and national day ( The Bangladesh Swadhinota o Jatiyo Dibosh) with due honour.
Assistant High Commissioner Arif Mohammad unfurled the Bangladesh national flag at the Commission premises and all the staffs of the high commission and invitees from here paid floral tributes to the founder of Bangladesh ‘Bangabandhu’ Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
The Assistant High Commissioner and other officials recounted the freedom struggle of Bangladesh and India, especially Tripura’s relationship with the country since before its independence from Pakistani rule.
Assistant High Commissioner Arif Mohammad said, “We are celebrating 53rd Bangladesh Independence and National Day in Tripura along with Bangladesh. We have unfurled our national flag amidst a small event this morning and have organized a special prayer with dignitaries here for the 30 lakh martyrs who died in our 1971 Liberation War, 2 lakh women who were assaulted during those days and everyone – in our country and abroad who contributed to our liberation”.
“Tripura then had 14 lakh people, had sheltered nearly 15 lakh East Pakistani refugees, ran at least 8 major Muktijoddha (liberation warrior) training camps, and the state government had swooped into action to feed and attend to 1.5 million refugees for months with support of the central government. Tripura had virtually become an important and strategic place for Bangladesh liberation and one of the safe havens for liberation war refugees apart from Bengal in those days”, he added.
