Agartala, Mar 18 (FD) The 41st Agartala Book Fair will start from March 24 next at International Fair Ground in Hapania.
The decision was announced after a meeting of the Agartala Book Fair steering committee chaired by Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha held at Muktadhara auditorium in Agartala on Friday.
Dr Saha said that the representatives of different countries will participate in upcoming meeting of G-20 event scheduled to be held at Agartala during the book fair.
Therefore, the Chief Minister urged everyone to make 41st Agartala Book Fair a success by keeping the reputation and tradition of the state intact.
Mayor of Agartala Municipal Corporation Dipak Majumder, MLA Badharghat Mina Rani Sarkar, Vice-Chancellor of Maharaja Bir Bikram University Satyadeo Poddar and former Vice-Chancellor of Tripura University Arunoday Saha among other dignitaries were present in the meeting.
The Book Fair will continue till April 5. Eight sub-committees have already been constituted for a smooth conduct of the Book Fair.
Eminent personalities from various fields took part in the discussions during the meeting. There were 10 proposals for selecting the theme. Later a five-member committee held a meeting and decided that this year the Book Fair would be organized on the theme ‘Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam’.
Secretary of Information and Cultural Affairs Department Dr. Pradeep Kumar Chakravarty while briefing in the meeting, said that representatives of different countries participating in the G-20 meeting will visit book fair. Let there be no fault in their hospitality, he added.
At the beginning of the meeting, Director of Information and Cultural Affairs Department Ratan Biswas gave details about the preparations for organizing book fair. He informed that 17 awards will be given in different categories at book fair. Cultural programmes will be organized daily, he added.
Besides, vehicles will be arranged from certain places to the fair ground for movement of the people to Book fair from various places.
He said, there were 162 stalls last year and the number would be increased this year. FD JK
