Agartala, Jan 30 (FD) A total of 305 candidates from different parties have submitted their nominations with concerned Returning Officers in all 60 Assembly constituencies of Tripura for February 16 polls, Chief Election Officer of the state Kirankumar Dinkarrao Gitte said on Monday.
Informing the details of nomination submission to reporters in a press conference, Gitte said, there was no violence reported across the state till the last day of nomination submission on Monday.
He said, on the last day of nomination paper submission, a total of 228 candidates had filed their nomination when the number was 77 on January 27 last.
The candidates list will be finalized once the processes of scrutiny and withdrawal have been completed, he added.
As per the official notification the nominations will be scrutinized on Tuesday while the last day of nomination withdrawal is February 2 next.
Gitte said there were 297 candidates in the 2018 assembly polls in the state. The candidate’s list will be finalized by 3pm on Feb 2, he added.
“As decided earlier we will provide security to all the candidates who have submitted their nominations from today onwards but if any of the candidates withdraw or are rejected from the candidate's list the security will also be removed automatically,” the Chief Election Officer of Tripura said.
A total of 25 observers have arrived here on Sunday who will ensure proper scrutiny of documents of the candidates as per the guidance and instruction of the Election Commission of India, Gitte added.
Besides, eight police observers have also arrived in the state and taken charges in all districts of the state from Sunday.
Moreover, three special observers are observing the nomination process in the state and will remain present during the scrutiny process on Tuesday.
He also claimed that there was no poll violence reported across the state during the nomination submission process.
He said candidates of each party visited their concerned Returning Officers office followed by rallies and submitted their nominations. FD PD
