Agartala, Dec 12 (FD) About 30 job aspirants, who were qualified in the Selection Tests for Graduate Teachers (STGT) were injured, three of them seriously, when police resorted to lathi charge to disperse them, who were demonstrating before the residence of state Education Minister, Ratan Lal Nath, police said.
Police said, three of the injured were admitted to Indira Gandhi Memorial (IGM) hospital here and their condition was out of danger.
A demonstrator, Biplab Bhowmik was surprised at the lathi charge of the police.
“We had a meeting earlier with the Education Minister, who assured us of processing the files and release job offers. As it was late, we tried to meet the minister for persuasion of our jobs. When he refused to meet us and left his residence, we were peacefully demonstrating before the residence demanding our jobs”, Bhowmik told reporters.
He said, police and CRPF resorted to lathi charge to disperse them, in which at least 50 job seekers were injured.
The main opposition party CPI-M condemned the incident and demanded their immediate appointment.
Secretary of the state unit of CPI-M, Jitendra Chowdhury met the injured in the hospital.
“This government has become barbaric. The lathi charge was not necessary. They passed their exams two years ago and have every right to get their jobs. We condemn the incident”, Chowdhury told reporters. FD JK
