24th state conference of the opposition CPI-M forms 60-member committee, Jiten re-elected as Secretary

Agartala, Jan 31 (FD) The three-day CPI-M’s 24th state conference ended today, which elected Jitendra Chowdhury, an MLA and former minister as its Secretary another time.
A sixty-member state committee was formed during its three day deliberations beginning from Jan 29, which omitted former state Finance Minister and MP, Badal Chowdhury and veteran leader, Narayan Kar, who is at present the convener of the Left Front Committee. Party sources said both the leaders omitted as they are sick and old.
The fourteen-member state Secretariat comprise lone politburo member Manik Sarkar and others.
Nabarun Deb, the Secretary of the state unit of DYFI was inducted in the state Committee and the veteran Bhanu Lal Saha; formerly the finance minister of the state was also dropped, but accommodated in the party’s Controle Commission.
There are 17 tribal members in the 60-member state committee and among them five are the members of the 14-member state secretariat.
There are two members in the state committee from the minority Muslims, Islamuddin (MLA) from Kadamtala in North Tripura district and Siddiqur Rahaman from Bishalgarh in Sipahijala district.
There are only five women in the committee, which showed poor reflections of the fair sex.
Chowdhury after being elected as the Secretary of the committee said that the party would organise strong mass movement against the BJP government for its misrule in the state. FD JK
