19th State-Level Wangala Festival Celebrates Garo Community's Rich Cultural Traditions in Tripura

Agartala, Dec 8 (FD) The 19th State-Level Wangala Festival, a celebration of the Garo community's rich cultural heritage, began on 7th December at Natintilla, Udaipur. The event was organized by the Udaipur Sub-Divisional Administration, Tripura Garo Union, and the Department of Information and Cultural Affairs.
During the festival's inauguration, Finance Minister Pranjit Singh Roy emphasized the significance of Wangala as the Garo community's primary festival, symbolizing unity and harmony. He noted that it brings together people from various castes and ethnic groups. Minister Roy also reiterated the state government's commitment to preserving the traditions of Janjati communities, under the leadership of Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha.
Tribal Welfare Minister Bikash Debbarma, the chief guest, commended the festival as a platform for preserving the Garo community’s distinct cultural practices. He highlighted the government’s initiatives to promote the socio-economic growth of indigenous groups. Several dignitaries attended the event, including MLA Abhishek Debroy, who discussed the development of Aspirational Blocks, and MLA Jitendra Majumdar.
The festival also featured nine exhibition stalls and cultural performances by local and external artists, showcasing the region’s vibrant artistic talents. Commemorative souvenirs marking the event were unveiled by the guests, adding to the occasion's festive spirit. FD SB
