18-foot-long blue whale washed ashore dead at Rameshwaram seashore

An 18-foot-long blue whale weighing two tonnes was washed ashore at Rameswaram seashore today. Rare whales and other marine life are abundant in the seas of Rameswaram. This blue whale was found near the seashore of the Pamban fishing harbour.
The wildlife authorities identified the whale and later sent it for a postmortem. Officials said that adult blue whales are 118 feet long, and this whale might be a calf that had strayed into the waters of the Gulf of Mannar.
