Agartala, Sept 6 (FD): Sixteen Bangladeshi people have been arrested from Rajnagar village, near here for illegally entering into Indian territory, acting Sub-divisional Police Officer (SDPO), Chhabir Ahmed said.
Acting on a tip-off, a team of police from West Agartala police station raided the house of one Rajib Miah last night at Rajnagar, where the persons were staying illegally and arrested them as they failed to show any valid document for their stay in Indian side, Ahmed said.
However, local people claimed that they caught the Bangladeshis and handed them over to police.
The arrested Bangladeshis were produced before a local court, which remanded them 14-days judicial custody.
Ahmed said, during preliminary investigation they revealed that they entered India in search of job and were working as daily wagers.
Sources in BSF said, despite erecting the barbed wire fencing in the border the Bangladeshis often enter into Indian side by cutting the fencing and many times they were involved with crimes including theft. FD JK
