Agartala, Sep 17 (FD) In a political development ahead of the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) elections, 150 tribal voters from 33 families left the Tipra Motha and joined the BJP on Sunday at a joining programme held in Montford market under Takarjala assembly constituency.
The event, organised by the BJP’s Takarjala Mandal unit, was led by its president Nirmal Debbarma, who has been actively spearheading efforts to strengthen the party’s base in tribal areas. Party insiders said the BJP has intensified its campaign across the ADC regions with the elections barely seven months away.
The programme was attended by Tribal Welfare Minister Bikash Debbarma, Jana Jati Morcha general secretary Bipin Debbarma, and Takarjala Mandal president Nirmal Debbarma, along with other party leaders. The leaders welcomed the new entrants by offering party flags and addressed the gathering.
In their speeches, Bikash, Bipin, and Nirmal highlighted the development initiatives undertaken by the BJP government for the welfare of tribal communities, while accusing the Tipra Motha of misleading people by playing on ethnic sentiments. They also alleged that corruption had reduced the ADC to “a mere salary and pension disbursing body” instead of serving the welfare of tribals.
The programme witnessed enthusiastic participation, with the new members pledging their support to strengthen the BJP’s organisational base in Takarjala. FD JK
