Agartala, Nov 5 (FD) Tripura police arrested 15 Rohingya refugees including six women and three children in two separate places of the state in last two days.
Eight Rohingyas including three children were arrested by Government Railway Police (GRP) police from Agartala Railway Station on Saturday morning, police said.
Police said, “The Rohingya refugees were moving suspiciously in the rail stations and during preliminary investigation they confessed that they entered into Tripura from their camps in Chittagong in Bangladesh. They were also carrying refugee cards provided by the United Nations”.
They also said that one middleman assured to provide them jobs in Delhi and fled the scene, when they were nabbed by the police.
The five detained Rohingyas were identified as- Minara (27), Sayed Mur (25), Mohammed Yousuf (30), Sawkat Ara (21) and Jannat Ara (23).
Earlier on Thursday, police arrested seven Rohingyas, including three women from a passenger’s vehicle at Ambassa in Dhalai district, about 70 km from here.
The police said, during routine check-up of vehicle at Betbagan on the National Highway-08 they were arrested.
Police said they fled from Bangladesh camp and illegally entered Tripura through Sonamura border in Sipahijala district. They were produced in a court on Friday and remanded 14-days jail custody.
The seven detained Rohingyas were identified as - Md. Ikbal Hossain (60), Abdul Gafur (30), Azim Ullah (22), Md. Jahangir Alam (22), Jannat Ara (21), Sadiya Begam (19) and Dilbahar Begam (45) and all were came from Cox’s Bazar district in Bangladesh.
