13 TIPRA Motha leaders join BJP ahead of 2024 Lok Sabha elections

Agartala June 18 (FD) TIPRA Motha, a tribal based regional party which is ruling in the state’s lone tribal council, received a major setback ahead of the upcoming 2024 Lok Sabha elections, as at least 13 of its leaders joined Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Saturday.
The BJP, which leads the coalition government with IPFT in Tripura, welcomed the 13 senior leaders from different wings of TIPRA Motha under the banner of BJP.
BJP state president Rajib Bhattacharjee, North Tripura MP Rebati Mohan Tripura, Minister for Tribal Welfare Bikash Debbarma and other leaders attended the joining programme.
Interacting with media at state BJP headquarters in Krishnanagar here, Rajib Bhattacharjee said, “All the new senior TIPRA Motha leaders who have joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) today are seen is a key component to the party with the Lok Sabha elections knocking at the door”.
“With the double engine government, overall development of the janajati people is on the priority list. By working together, the dream of ‘Ek Tripura Srestha Tripura’ can be achieved”, he added.
The Tipra Motha leaders who left the party and joined the ruling party said that they joined the BJP after realizing that there is no future for the regional party in the state, Bhattacharjee added. FD
