District Election Officer serves notice against BJP MLA for flouting ECI norms

Agartala, Apr 29 (FD) District Election Officer of North Tripura district has served a notice to the ruling BJP MLA of Bagbassa, Yadav Lal Nath on the charge of manhandling a polling officer during voting for Tripura East Lok Sabha constituency on April 26 last.
Sources in the office of the Chief Electoral Officer told reporters here that the notice was served against the MLA by the District Election Officer (DEO) on April 28 for allegedly manhandling a booth level officer (BLO) at a polling booth in North Tripura district.
A group of ruling BJP activists led by the MLA had entered into the booth on the day of the second phase of elections and allegedly manhandled the Booth Level Officer (BLO), Chinmoy Das.
The District Level Officer (DEO), Debapriya Bardhan, who is also the District Magistrate of North Tripura District, served the notice to the MLA Nath asking him to explain why he entered into the booth by flouting the ECI guidelines and manhandled the BLO, said the official.
In a separate incident, an FIR has been lodged against BJP's North Tripura district president Kajal Das and his associates for allegedly thrashing a presiding officer at the same booth during polling on April 26.
Many voters were standing in the queue in a booth in the same Bagbassa constituency even after 5 PM.
The Presiding officer then asked the voters to stand in the queue and collect tokens to enable them to vote after 5 PM.
A group of people led by the District BJP president, Kajal Das appeared in the scene and forced the Presiding Officer to come out of the booth and hen thrashed him.
Sources said, “An FIR was lodged against the assailants including Kajal Das and the Kadamtala police station has served notice to the accused and investigation is underway”. FD JK
